How to get rid of dust mites
Dust mites in a mattress can be a trigger point for asthma. You can clean your mattress by sprinkling a generous amount of bicarbonate of soda over the entire surface. For best results, do this first thing in the morning and leave it for the full day; the bicarbonate of soda will draw out dirt, moisture and odours from the mattress. At the end of the day, vacuum the mattress thoroughly, ensuring you?ve removed all the bicarbonate of soda. It?s useful to carry out this routine every 3 months. If you suffer from extreme asthma, try covering your pillows and mattress with dust proof covers.
Keeping dust at bay
When cleaning our homes, we often sweep dust off surfaces and into the air, leaving it to settle on the floor. There?s a simple trick you can use when dusting, which will get rid of the dust for good. Place a hand held attachment onto your vacuum and hold in the air while you dust ? you?ll brush the dust straight into the vacuum.
Dusting hard to reach places
Not all places are easy to reach to remove dust, like behind heavy furniture and inside crevices. Try placing a hand held attachment onto your vacuum, making it easier to reach these areas. If your hand held attachment is too wide to fit behind furniture, try wrapping a damp cloth around a narrow long item, such as a stick or even a metal coat hanger, stretched out to full length. You could even try a small, damp paint brush to get into those hard to reach crevices.
How to remove mould
Mould can also be a hassle for asthma sufferers. To help get rid of mould in your home, fill a spray bottle with equal parts vinegar and water, then add lemon juice for a fresh smell. Spray the area affected and leave to stand for 10 minutes. Take a small hand brush and scrub the area before rinsing off the solution. The bathroom is the most common place for mould to build up, as mould spores can?t grow without moisture. To prevent occurrence in problem areas, remember to wipe dry after each use.
